Chris,
You are a thinker, that comes through on your posts. Several of your posts did not grab me in the first few seconds, which is all you have before I potentially close my window to your little corner of the world forever.
Make your first 3 sentences grab me as the reader. Your blog title, like this one "Name 1 thing I can do to improve my blog" is an eyecatcher.
First I have to read on to your next blog post to see if I have something I can offer.
Your next blog post lists names of captains.You can tell you were bored whe you wrote it. Not exactly enough for most people to move on to the next post.
I went on to read about facts about Halloween. Does not grab you in the first three seconds either.
Here is the deal. What made me even read your blog was your title and description. I thought it was creative and represented who you probably really are.
Don't post about politics, lists of facts, or other topics that do not engage and audience.
Be yourself. Here are two blogs that I think capture the essence of who their authors are and the "one of a kind" type of blog they offer.

I've enjoyed looking through blogs even though I originally signed up for one only to read and comment on others political thoughts - for the purpose of mental exercise.
I don't read many although I have been doing ten blog explosion trips a day to check them out ans see if there are any worth noting. I think it is a personal thing and if people are looking for such as this they will like your blog.
The colors are a little too drab but some of the content is good. I tend to find a blog where the one post catches me and then read a lot of that blog starting from way back to see if it is worth looking at on a daily basis. Also some blogs are more interactive than others at least that is what I have found in the short time I have been looking around. I like blogs that are well written and thoughtful as well as humorous and I like the comment to be entertaining, enlightening or fun.
All in all a great Blog. You definately have guts. For my taste though, the title box is a little busy and the post are a little too long. 3-5 sentences are about all I can handle.
